In this basic quick tip we are going to cover how to import audio into Reason, specifically multiple tracks at once. If you subscribe to a source of stems such as URM or Produce Like A Pro, you will already be familiar with how to import audio into Reason. If you haven’t crossed that bridge yet, this Reason Feature quick tip is for you. It’s quite simple to do and once you’ve done it once, you’ll have it licked.
Step 1: Getting the sequencer ready for the audio:
There are two ways to proceed here, either you have a tempo map or you don’t.
I have a Temp Map: Follow the steps below to import the tempo map:
- In the File menu select Import MIDI File.
- Using the Reason Browser, navigate to the folder where your stems are located and then select the tempo map.
- Click Import at the bottom of the Reason Browser.
- Delete the ID8 track and device that were also created.
- Done!
I don’t have a tempo map: If there are no readme-files in the folder with your stems, check the place you downloaded them from to get tempo information. Once you have it, manually change the tempo in Reason and you’re good to go!
Step 2: Import Audio:
Hopefully you are now ready for the next step. If you don’t have a tempo map and you don’t have any tempo information, that is a whole other topic. Sorry! If you’re still with me, let’s crack on.
- In the File menu select Import Audio File.
- Using the Reason Browser, navigate to the folder where your stems are located.
- Highlight all of the stems that you wish to import.
- Click Import at the bottom of the Reason Browser.
- Go make your preferred beverage.
What Now:
Now you should have all of your audio imported and the sequencer locked to the tempo. Then it’s time to organise everything so you can practice your mixing skills. We’ll take a look at organising imported audio sometime soon. Stay tuned!
