Curved Automation Added In Reason 11 – Quick Tip

Adding Curved Automation to the reason sequencer

Reason 11 brought many new things, one of the key new Reason features for me is curved Automation. For most, this isn’t news, but if lockdown has you rediscovering Reason then this feature is likely to be quite exciting! As you can see from the above gif, it is fairly self-explanatory. But what is a quick tip without some steps to follow?

Adding Curved Automation:

  • First you need to add some automation points.
  • You do this in the usual way.  (alt and single click or double click where you want the point to appear)
  • Then, when your mouse pointer encounters an automation line the cursor will change.
  • Click and drag the line until the curve is as you want it.
  • You can then add more points as required. Note: the line between your new point and the next point will straighten. Re-apply a new curve as required.
  • Where the two points are in relation to each other others will determine how much of a curve is possible between them.

As you can see, easy and useful. It took a while to appear but now that it has, our envelopes no longer jump like robots. If you haven’t yet picked up Reason 11, this is just one of many things that will enhance your experience.
